Perhaps, the most frustrating/asked question in high-profile interviews. Like, come on, first of all, I would never know that I am going to be stranded on a deserted island.
I'll never be like, "Oh! I am going to be stranded on a deserted island, let me take my puppy with me." And even if so, I would never have the time to take things with me. The only answer I could think of is something that could save my life. Anyways, let me throw some light on the things people usually say-
- Mobile Phone- Oh great! First of all, would you be able to establish a connection? What will happen after a day's battery? What if your phone is full of water from the sea? But no, they want to click selfies on the island with the caption, "Oh no! Stranded on a deserted island! #boring" 📱
- My Kindle- Okay, that's fine, maybe you want to read on how to survive on a deserted island. But, if they ask you to have something else besides your Kindle, where will you get it from? And by the time you complete your book, you would be starving. Imagine a situation where you reach a deserted island, are in panic, and thinking of what to do, when suddenly an idea struck your mind to take out Kindle and read a book.
- A Friend- Sure! But right now, think about yourself. What if they themselves are starving, or relying on you? If you aren't able to do something, how will they? Instead, think as individuals, and take the things you both need for yourselves, rather than just bringing each other.
- A Laptop- Yeah, you can bring it, but people usually say that they want to bring their laptop, to document their experiences. Well, you can document your experiences later. Your main aim is to survive now. Since years, you have never tried to write a book, but suddenly, on a deserted island, you want to document your experiences. 🖳
- A fully equipped yacht- The thing that makes me laugh the most is how people describe it, with horsepower and everything. And why would you ever be stranded on a deserted island, if you would have a yacht. It is more applicable to 'stranded in sea'. 🛥
- Sunscreen- You are not on a vacation, you are not going there to get tanned. But this is better than what many people answer.
Answers that I think are perfect-
- Mirror or a Reflector- To signal any helicopter/to light fire.
- Knife- To protect oneself and to cut fruits from their nodes. 🗡
- Plenty of Drinking water- To not get dehydrated. 🍼
- Torch- To be able to see at night. 🔦
- Sleeping bag/hammock- To be comfortable at night.
- Matchstick- To light a bonfire.
- Fishing net- For catching fishes
- A Rope- If it helps in any way.
So these were the answers from various people. God forbid, if anything like this happens, you need to be prepared and you should have sharp survival skills. To impart such skills, it would be great if you follow the things like-
- Watch 'Man vs. Wild' on Discovery Channel, starring Bear Grylls.
- Read the book 'Outdoor Survival Skills' by Larry Olsen.
- Keep a backpack ready beforehand to be prepared whenever a disaster strikes.
